Child Health Initiative ambassador Zoleka Mandela has called for emboldened leadership and intensified action to support Vision Zero and reduce road traffic injuries during high level meetings and events in Washington DC.

At a meeting with the US Secretary of State for the Department of Transportation, Elaine Chao, and her international team, Mandela and an FIA Foundation delegation discussed the forthcoming 3rd Global Ministerial Conference and issues of global leadership in road safety.

At Transforming Transportation, the World Resources Institute and World Bank-led global transport conference, Zoleka Mandela took part in a ‘fireside chat’ on road safety with international journalist Femi Oke, which you can watch here. Mandela announced the Vision Zero Challenge, a new initiative, led by WRI, to encourage cities in Latin America to adopt Safe System policies. She also met with the President and CEO of the World Resources Institute, Dr Andrew Steer, to discuss the need to focus the mobility, planning and climate policies of cities on the health and wellbeing of young people, and discussing progress in the campaign for a Global Adolescent Summit.
