School Area Road Safety Assessments and Improvements (SARSAI) programme

Amend is implementing its School Area Road Safety Assessments and Improvements (SARSAI) programme in Senegal. The initiative was launched in Dakar in 2017 by Amend and a range of partners from government, schools and the community. The road safety NGO Laser International is also a key partner on the project.

At the ribbon cutting ceremony to launch the project a range of road safety measures were unveiled including two new speed humps, a zebra crossing, signage, protected sidewalk, road safety awareness artwork, and increased road safety education. The infrastructure changes are based on Amend’s prior evidence-based interventions which reduced injury rates by 26%. Amend, which led the project together with LASER International, has a history of successfully reducing road traffic injuries often by lowering speeds.
